Dr. Brandon Heck

Dr. Brandon Heck is an economist and Research Associate in the Health Division at IMPAQ International. His fields of expertise are health economics and applied econometrics, with an emphasis in quasi-experimental methodology.

Expertise

Dr. Heck has extensive training in advanced econometric methods for program evaluation and causal inference in both experimental and non-experimental settings. His dissertation work consisted of four papers, all of which focused on determining the factors that affect health, demand for healthcare, and quality improvements in healthcare. His job market paper analyzes the effect of hospital grades from the Leapfrog Group on consumer demand for hospital services and quality improvements by hospitals themselves. His other papers include the effect of air pollutants and air quality alerts on respiratory health, the effect of compulsory schooling reforms in England on long-term health, and the effect of fluoride in community water systems on oral and overall health.

Dr. Heck has considerable experience in data management, merging of large and distinct data sets, large administrative hospital records and other large data sets, and statistical programming. He is proficient in both Stata and SAS.

Education

Dr. Heck earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California Santa Cruz. He also holds a BS in Mathematics and a BA in Economics from California State University, Chico.
