Project Updates

In November and December, Stephanie Levin, Eliana Saltares, and Katie Allen visited Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, TX, and New York City school districts to conduct teacher focus groups for the evaluation of Reading Apprenticeship Across the Disciplines. The team recently completed an evaluation of a Reading Apprenticeship program for WestEd as part of a Supporting Effective Educator Development Grant. Mikhail Pyatigorsky is directing the evaluation of the current Reading Apprenticeship program, which will be completed in September 2018.

For our Advancing Informal STEM Learning experimental study, this month Andrea Beesley, Michaela Gulemetova, Maria DiFuccia, Brandon Saunders, Katie Allen, and FHI 360 completed the professional development for the first of four themes of the program. Afterschool educators and program directors participated from South Carolina and from New York City.

As a part of our work with American Institutes for Research (AIR) on The Partnership Project, Fran O’Reilly and our consultant, Greta Shultz, recently visited three Winchendon public schools in central Massachusetts. These site visits were a part of the final year of data collection for this 5-year project, which is an implementation evaluation of professional development provided by the state to staff in selected districts on a variety of topics related to the state’s multi-tiered system of supports.
