Project Updates

IMPAQ submitted formal recommendations to Senator Todd Young (R-IN) and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) the Co-Chairs of the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) Congressional Task Force on Reform and Reorganization of U.S. Development Assistance. Read the press release.

2014 data are now available in the State Health Practice Database for Research (SHPDR). SHPDR supports research to understand how innovations in treatments, diagnosis, preventive strategies, and the organization of care delivery can be most effectively deployed to improve the health and well-being of the U.S. population. IMPAQ is conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection in Hoima, Western Uganda as part of the REALISE project’s final evaluation. The project is funded by the ECLT Foundation and is directed towards the elimination of hazardous child labor in five major tobacco growing sub-counties in Hoima.

Presentations & Publications

IMPAQ’s latest issue brief, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Participants’ Employment Patterns: Findings from the National Health Interview Survey, seeks to inform policy makers, practitioners, and advocates about the characteristics of SNAP participants, their employment rates and patterns, and the key determinants of employment. Six IMPAQ researchers submitted one-minute videos to the American Evaluation Association 2017 Conference Video Contest. Visit our YouTube channel to watch them discuss the conference theme, From Learning to Action.

As a part of our work with with the AARP Foundation. Jennifer Pooler, Vanessa Hoffman, and Fata Karva’s paper, “Primary Care Providers' Perspectives on Screening Older Adult Patients for Food Insecurity” has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Aging & Social Policy.

This month, the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior is publishing Jennifer Pooler’s paper, “Cooking Matters for Adults Improves Food Resource Management Skills and Self-confidence Among Low-Income Participants.” Jennifer wrote the paper with colleagues from Altarum, Share Our Strength, RTI International, and the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.

Good News @ IMPAQ

Lanlan Xu helped the Howard County Commission for Women to collect feminine hygiene products and monetary donations for the Howard County Community Action Council Food Bank and Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center. Congratulations to Lanlan who raised $1,124. IMPAQ’s Corporate Social Responsibility program matched the donations.
