Dr. Cary Sennett to Join IMPAQ International as President

Washington, DC – IMPAQ International is pleased to announce that Cary Sennett, M.D., Ph.D., a nationally recognized health policy researcher, has accepted the position as President of IMPAQ International.  Dr. Sennett will assume the position of President on March 1, 2012.   

Dr. Sennett will join IMPAQ from the Brookings Institution, where he served as a Fellow in the Economic Studies program and Managing Director for Health Care Finance Reform at the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform. 

“With Dr. Sennett, IMPAQ is making an investment in our strategic growth,” said IMPAQ’s Chief Executive Officer Sharon R. Benus.  “Cary is a nationally recognized expert and we will rely on his thought leadership as IMPAQ continues to broaden its reach in the public policy research field.”

Prior to joining the Brookings Institution, Dr. Sennett served as Chief Medical Officer at MedAssurant and as Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer at Ingenix (now OptumInsight).  As Executive Vice President of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), Dr. Sennett led the development of HEDIS®, NCQA’s national standard measurement set.   He has held senior executive positions in professional organizations including the American College of Cardiology and the American Board of Internal Medicine, and served as Vice Chair of the AMA-Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement.  He has served on and chaired a number of National Quality Forum (NQF) committees and has served on the editorial boards of Health Affairs, the American Journal of Managed Care, Population Health Management, and the Joint Commission Journal on Quality Improvement.  Dr. Sennett, who earned his MD from Yale and his Ph.D. from the Sloan School at MIT, trained in Internal Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and remains a Board Certified internist.

Dr. Sennett will succeed Dr. Craig Coelen who served as President of IMPAQ from 2008 to 2011.  Dr. Coelen stated, “In addition to experience and knowledge of the U.S. health system, particularly with respect to measurement of health outcomes, Cary brings to IMPAQ a proven ability to plan and manage the strategic development of a data-centric and performance-focused organization.”
