National Education Association Health Information Network Recognizes IMPAQ Sponsorship of New School Safety Fund

The National Education Association Health Information Network (NEA HIN)—a not-for-profit affiliate of the NEA that delivers programs to improve the health and safety of students, teachers, and education support professionals—formally launched the Jerald L. Newberry School Safety Fund at an event in Atlanta, Georgia on June 29th, 2013.

The Fund recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of NEA HIN’s retiring Executive Director, Jerald Newberry, whose leadership on issues ranging from school crisis management to clean air has put NEA HIN at the forefront of efforts to create “Safe Schools for Every Child.” The Fund—which will be used to support the development of new and enhanced programs to improve school safety—will allow NEA HIN to invest more in this critical work.

Speaking at the June 29th event, IMPAQ President Dr. Cary Sennett, who also serves as president of the NEA HIN Board, described the new fund as a vital step towards achieving safer schools – a goal Newberry worked for tirelessly throughout his career. “It is fitting the Fund is named after him and will continue his work," said Sennett.

During the event, IMPAQ International was recognized as one of four corporate sponsors whose prior contributions have helped the Fund reach its launch target of $50,000. The Fund is supported strictly through donations and contributions.

“IMPAQ’s support for NEA HIN’s School Safety Fund gives a real boost to programs valued by NEA members,” said Bette Simpson, NEA HIN’s Principal Development Manager. “And NEA HIN recognizes that addressing the range of issues that affect the safety of students and educators will require more than the school community itself can provide. IMPAQ’s support—and, we hope, support from other companies who work with and around schools—is essential to our making the kind of progress students deserve.”

Sharon Benus, IMPAQ’s CEO, said that the company was “delighted to contribute to an initiative that would help to affirm Jerry Newberry’s legacy at NEA HIN.”

“IMPAQ’s mission is to help improve lives across the globe, both through our own work, and by supporting other organizations that share our mission. So we are very proud to be able to contribute to NEA HIN’s impressive work to ensure safer schools for the millions of parents, children, and educators in the United States,” she added.
