The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has contracted with IMPAQ International to develop and deploy a Strategic Innovation Engine (SIE).
The SIE will identify which health care practices show significant evidence of success, expand the science of quality improvement; and disseminate a body of knowledge on what works well. The SIE will be an important resource for the Quality Innovation Networks-Quality Improvement Organizations under the CMS 11th Scope of Work.
“The SIE will be a what works clearinghouse of evidence-based quality improvement resources,” said Dr. David Baker, Executive Vice President, and head of IMPAQ’s Center for Research, Evaluation & Implementation. “This project adds to IMPAQ’s ever growing patient safety portfolio that includes work on the prevention of heath care associated infections, reduction of health care acquired conditions, and improving care coordination through better teamwork.”
Under this contract, IMPAQ will provide extensive, specialized, technical support and assistance to CMS, including developing and deploying the SIE, best practices committees, data collection systems, analysis and reporting tools, return on investment analyses, and information sharing channels.
CMS is responsible for implementing Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
