The U.S. Department of Labor’s (USDOL) Employment and Training Administration (ETA) announced in a Training and Employment Notice on September 12, 2013 and USDOL News Brief on September 12, 2013 the availability of approximately $80,000 in funding for the 2013 ETA Research Papers Program. The ETA Research Papers Program seeks to support original research conducted by Doctoral and Post-Doctoral students on topics related to the public workforce system.
Through the Program, ETA plans to make approximately 10 awards on a competitive basis to Doctoral and Post-doctoral students to carry out policy relevant research on employment and training topics. However, research does not need to be limited to domestic labor programs or populations.
Selected topic areas of focus include:
- Understanding Changing Labor Markets;
- Identifying Effective Strategies;
- Improving Workforce System Infrastructure;
- Addressing the Needs of Special Populations;
- Building Research Infrastructure and Support; and
- Other related topics.
IMPAQ International, a Maryland-based research, evaluation and technical assistance firm, collaborated with the ETA to develop the program application requirements, application process, and evaluation criteria. IMPAQ will also assist ETA with the selection of awardees, and provide them with technical assistance during the program. On completion, IMPAQ will furnish ETA with a report on the program’s performance and suggested changes.
In its release, the ETA also encouraged prospective applicants to review the 2013 ETA Research Papers Program website, developed by IMPAQ, at www.ETAresearchpapersprogram.IMPAQINT.com This website contains further details about the application submission process and other important procedures for this competition.
