American Institutes for Research Recognized by Seramount’s Inclusion Index for Creating an Inclusive Workplace

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) has been named to Seramount's sixth annual Inclusion Index for its commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. The Inclusion Index provides organizations with the metrics needed to understand trends and opportunities in demographic representation, creates a road map to drive internal change, and identifies DEI solutions to close gaps.

AIR was among the 42 organizations recognized for creating an inclusive workplace, receiving a score of 60 percent or higher. This year, 155 organizations applied to participate in Seramount’s 2023 Inclusion Index. Completed applications were collected online from December 2022 through March 2023, and results reveal opportunities for all organizations to target their diversity and inclusion efforts for greater effectiveness. Seramount is a strategic professional services and research firm dedicated to supporting high-performing, inclusive workplaces.

“AIR is honored to be included in the Inclusion Index for the second time in the last three years,” said Karen Francis, Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer at AIR. “This recognition is a good indicator of progress for all that we have achieved on our DEI journey. At the same time, we are motivated to seek further improvements that can aid in identifying performance gaps and new opportunities for advancement.”

AIR has adopted a DEI strategy that is based on four pillars—workforce and work environment; cultural competence; aligning our work and organizational identity and reputation; and sustainability and growth. These pillars are fully integrated into AIR’s broader organizational strategy, its approach to research and evaluation, and how AIR staff deliver training and technical assistance.

Organizations provided data and were measured in three key areas: best practices in the recruitment, retention, and advancement of people from underrepresented groups—women, racial/ethnic groups, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people; inclusive company culture; and demographic diversity.
