National Center on Family Homelessness and the American Institutes for Research Join Forces

Washington, D.C. – The American Institutes for Research (AIR) and The National Center on Family Homelessness (The National Center) announced that effective today their not-for-profit organizations have joined together to better assist those serving the needs of the nation’s homeless children and families.

AIR and The National Center both conduct and apply behavioral and social science research and provide evidence-based support to government agencies and private organizations that serve children, youth and families.

“Joining forces creates a truly unique capacity to help such underserved homeless populations as the children of immigrants who have been deported, or those in the child welfare and justice systems, and veterans,” said AIR Senior Vice President Cheryl Vince Whitman, Director of the Human and Social Development Program. “And with ever more homeless children in schools, AIR's vast experience in education and human services enables us to respond to the needs of school staff, local service providers, and students.”

The National Center was founded in 1988 by Ellen Bassuk, M.D., a leading authority on child and family homelessness. Dr. Bassuk will work with AIR as she continues to address homelessness issues.
