Job Analyses for Safety Critical Jobs in Aviation (FAA)

To increase the capacity and efficiency of the nation’s airspace, the FAA is implementing new technology as part of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). AIR conducted job analyses to define the job of air traffic controllers and used these analyses as the foundation for strategic (i.e., future-oriented) analyses that define the job as it will exist in the future after the implementation of NextGen. AIR also conducted job analyses to define the job of the technicians who maintain the hardware and software (e.g., radars) that make domestic air travel possible. To manage these data more efficiently in a multi-user environment, AIR built a web-based application—the FAA Job Analysis Information Database (JAIdB)—that allows users to store and query job analysis data and to create process flows.
