Dr. Andersen (Ph.D., M.S., University of Maryland; M.P.H, University of Miami) is a Principal Research Associate in IMPAQ’s Health Division. Dr. Andersen has extensive experience in clinical and health policy research. Dr. Andersen’s prior training includes gerontology, epidemiology, and public health. During his academic career he focused primarily on geriatric trauma and the geriatric syndrome of frailty. Prior to joining IMPAQ, Dr. Andersen worked at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) where he helped develop quality measures for nursing homes, analyzed regulatory and clinical data, and oversaw activities related to quality rating systems of healthcare providers, and the operations of public websites (e.g., Nursing Home Compare). He was also involved with the creation and publication of the Nursing Home Data Compendium and the development of historical databases for trend analyses.
At IMPAQ, Dr. Andersen is leading the quality performance domain for IMPAQ’s implementation support contract for CMS’ Comprehensive ESRD Care (CEC) Initiative, an ACO-like program for ESRD Medicare beneficiaries. He is also serving as Project Director on another CEC contract to use a quality of life survey to assess the performance of ESRD ACOs.
