Connected Educator Month (CEM) is an annual, October-long collection of events and resources to connect educators and education stakeholders with professional learning experiences worldwide. Since its start in 2012, CEM has provided a platform for millions of educators around the world to participate in hundreds of professional development and other education opportunities.
Led by AIR, Powerful Learning Practice, and Grunwald Associates LLC, CEM aims to create a more globally-connected, evidence-based movement that fosters collaboration and innovation in teacher professional learning.
This year, AIR is leading three CEM themes:
Social & Emotional Learning in School Settings
Researchers continue to show the importance of supporting the development of students’ social and emotional skills. How can educators create systems that promote social and emotional learning (SEL)? During CEM 2015, AIR will host several events that address the three main topics surrounding SEL: school climate and conditions for learning, and employability skills.
Building Quality Beyond the Bell
Afterschool and expanded learning programs provide a place for young people to grow and learn during their out-of-school time—in fact, research shows that high-quality afterschool programs lead to improvements in school performance and a decrease in disciplinary incidents. Activities connected to this theme will provide information on quality afterschool programs and how to develop, implement, evaluate, and improve them.
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
A Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a decision-making framework that integrates assessment and a continuum of instruction and intervention through which educators make meaningful connections in order to raise student achievement. Join the National Center on Intensive Intervention (NCII), the Collaboration for Effective Educator Development, Accountability and Reform (CEEDAR), the Center on Response to Intervention at AIR (Center on RTI), and the National Center on Systemic Improvement (NCSI) for events and activities on developing and implementing MTSS, such as response to intervention, or schoolwide positive behavioral interventions and supports.
AIR staff will also participate in the Broadening Participation in STEM Education theme, and host an October 22 Webinar, “Acquiring Core Content for English Language Learners.”
