Jill Young

Senior Researcher

Jill Young is a senior researcher in the Youth, Family, and Community Development program at AIR. Her primary responsibilities include leading research, evaluation, and capacity-building projects. Dr. Young’s work is focused on youth development, out-of-school time programming, and social and emotional learning at the national, state, and local levels. She specializes in both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses, with a focus on mixed methods. She currently serves as the research and evaluation section editor for the Journal of Youth Development, on the research advisory committee for Youth Today, and on the publication board for the Information Age Publishing book series on Current Issues in Out-of-School Time.

Prior to joining AIR, Dr. Young supported Chicago’s largest afterschool system, After School Matters where she served as the Senior Director of Research and Evaluation, leading research and evaluation efforts for afterschool and summer programs. She also supported program design and led implementation studies for special initiative programs, including those focused on postsecondary services and opportunity youth. She also worked as a statistical analyst at University of Chicago and as a research manager at Northwestern University.
