Kevin Junk

Kevin Junk is a TA Consultant at AIR. Junk has over 20 years of experience supporting school improvement in public education from rural, suburban, and urban districts. Currently, Junk is leading a project with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) through the Region 9 Comprehensive Center. This project consists of supporting ISBE in creating a multi-tiered resource allocation review tool. In his role supporting ISBE, Junk has led communities of practice (CoPs) and other small groups of stakeholders to develop best practices on how to braid and blend federal and state funds to help support the maximization of funding streams and implement Social Emotional Learning and Trauma informed learning.

Junk also develops and provides content aligned with the national principal supervisor standards and focuses on building (a) productive, one-on-one relationships with principals and (b) coherent, systematic supervisory systems for all principals. This work supports principal supervisors in developing skills to provide better coaching for the principals whom they supervise.

Before joining AIR, Junk has successful experience in school and district administration, specifically as a superintendent and principal for six years in small rural districts. In one of the districts, he was able to reallocate funds to update the entire schools’ computers, and in the other district, his students scored in the top 5 schools for their performance on the state assessment.
