Launching the “i know” Effort by CDC to Increase HIV/AIDS Dialogue Among African Americans

Washington, D.C. – AIR is supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP) with the official launch on March 4, 2010 of the “i know” campaign to increase dialogue about HIV/AIDS among African Americans aged 18-24 and their partners, friends, and family.

The event is the latest phase of the Act Against AIDS (AAA) campaign, a five-year, multi-faceted effort designed to contribute to CDC’s goal of reducing the incidence of HIV in the United States. AIR is the prime contractor tasked with directing a national campaign to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS among the African American community.

CDC will host the launch of “i know” from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. ET in Atlanta at the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Student Center in collaboration with the Atlanta University Center (Morehouse, Spelman, Clark-Atlanta, Morris Brown, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the Interdenominational Theological Center). The event features appearances by Jeremih, BET’s Jeff Johnson, Marvelyn Brown, and CDC representatives. The event will include a digital lounge, the introduction of an “i know” Web video featuring Jamie Foxx, a radio public service announcement, and a chance to find out more about HIV prevention from “i know” partners—including Act Against AIDS Leadership Initiative organizations, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, AIDS service organizations and local community groups.
