The American Institutes for Research is working with the Powerful Learning Practice (PLP) to help district leaders navigate the multifaceted challenges behind designing, planning, and implementing a reimagined vision of the role of technology in education. The Connected Leadership Academy was co-created and led by AIR and PLP. The curriculum will be closely aligned with a body of research done by AIR for the United States Department of Education’s Future Ready Leaders project.

Students with iPadsThe Academy is specially designed for district leadership: superintendents, assistant superintendents, department chairs, district leaders, principals, heads of schools, professional development providers, and other school leaders.

Based on a highly successful learning model used for the last ten years by PLP, our Connected Leadership Academy has two full day, face-to-face events—a kickoff and a culminating celebration—as well as five learning cycles that occur within an online community of practice.

The learning also takes place through webinars, 1-1 coached meetings, and thought-filled discussions in a virtual community. With support and scaffolding, participants will

  • complete a needs-sensing process to define a priority focus area among the four areas of future ready leadership: robust technical infrastructure, collaborative leadership, personalized student learning, and personalized professional learning for teachers and leaders.
  • develop a conceptual framework and approach digital transformation in their district.
  • develop an action project, along with supporting implementation tools and resources to be applied in the local setting.
  • grow their professional learning network by collaborating with peer leaders from around the country.
