Strategic Communications for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention

The media plays a significant role in shaping how Americans perceive, understand, and respond to serious public health challenges. Consequently, effective media relations are critical to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC's) ability to articulate prevention messages and advance program goals. Comprehensive issues management strategies also are essential to preserve CDC’s reputation as the nation’s leading public health institution and avoid misunderstandings about critical prevention issues.

For more than 15 years, AIR and partner Corkery Group Unlimited have provided communications support to the CDC National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention’s news media team on nearly every major development concerning these diseases. We have supported the successful rollout of a range of HIV prevention guidelines, including related policy analysis and issues management. We assisted in planning for and responding to the launch of NHAS, including messages, materials, and media and partner strategies.

On an ongoing basis, we develop and carry out media strategies for major CDC scientific announcements, national surveillance data, and important publications. We also provide full-service meeting communications planning and media relations support for CDC-sponsored National HIV Prevention and National STD Prevention conferences.
